2016 Expedition Season is nearly here!!

Excitement is building as we wait for our Expeditioners from the coastline of North Carolina to the mountains of Colorado. This past week we wrapped up an informative and exhaustive training session for our expedition leaders here at Base Camp on the Preserve. We welcomed back return leaders and got to know new friends. We shared stories and experiences, best practices and worst-case scenarios. Then, our ten leaders sheared off into their four respective groups – Outer Banks, Blue Ridge, Western, and Trailblazers – to map out course logistics and run recon on new routes as they prepare to receive their expeditioners in the very near future. We are thrilled to announce that the majority of expeditions this summer are at capacity – the word is out! On Sunday, we begin our first Outer Banks and Blue Ridge Expeditions of the summer. The following week, our Trailblazers arrive in Cedar Mountain, NC, and our Western Expedition begins in Albuquerque, NM. Did we mention that we are excited? Anne has worked at Green River over the years at summer camp, expeditions, and the school programs as a counselor, expedition leader, mentor, and program director. Anne’s related camp experiences include working as a counselor and program assistant at Camp Ton-A-Wandah in North Carolina, an expedition leader for Wilderness Ventures and an environmental educator and expedition leader for the Teton Science School. Prior to returning home to GRP, Anne was the Director of Education for the Mountain Studies Institute in Silverton, Colorado. Anne and her husband, Steve, are both actively engaged in the American Camp Association, The Association of Environmental Education, and The North Carolina Youth Camp Association. When Anne is not working, she can be found trail running, paddling, cycling, or backcountry skiing with her husband Steve, their sons, Phen and Hawkins,daughter, Alida,and golden retriever, Irie Bird!
