Campers all embarked on many different Mentor hikes this morning to many different places. One trek that many campers went to today was the GRP farm! The farm is home to two goats, four pigs, several rabbits, honey bees, and chickens. Campers had the opportunity to hold an albino rabbit, feed many animals, learn about and taste many different plants, and harvest Yukon Gold potatoes.
Campers saw many different types of mint plants, fennel, squash, mushrooms, and oregano, to name a few. They splashed in a creek and caught minnows and crayfish. Some campers also found their spirit stones in the water here while others just enjoyed being able to cool off. The sun was beating down, so the chance for a water break under the shade was a very welcome reprise, soon followed by snack.
By the time everyone climbed on the bus to head back to camp, the lunch menu dominated many thoughts. The bus was filled with the sound of many camp songs being sung until everyone arrived back at Base Camp.
Campers started new activities today. Activities here at GRP this session include mountain biking, pottery, climbing wall, advanced theatre, archeology, pioneer cabin, nature art, Tae Kwon Do, and woodworking. While this list is by no means complete, it is just a taste of some of the skills and hobbies that campers were introduced to today.
