Opening Day at Green River Preserve: Welcome, Rookies!

The wait is over—Green River Preserve’s Summer Camp is officially underway, and we couldn’t be more excited to kick off Rookie Week! For many Campers, today marks a first: the first time stepping onto our breathtaking mountain home, the first time meeting their bunkmates, and—most importantly—the first time diving into the adventure of a lifetime.

As the cars rolled in and Campers took their first steps on The Preserve, the air buzzed with excitement. Nervous smiles turned into bursts of laughter, and friendships began forming in the span of a shared snack or an exchanged high-five. This is the magic of Rookie Week—it’s about discovering that camp isn’t just a place, it’s a feeling. It’s the warmth of a sunlit trail, the crackle of a fire under a sky full of stars, and the thrill of learning something new—whether it’s how to paddle a canoe, identify animal tracks, or sing at the top of your lungs during a campfire song.

By the end of the day, Campers will have dipped their toes into everything that makes Green River Preserve extraordinary. They’ll tour Base Camp, meet our incredible Mentors and Counselors, and start carving out their own place in this vibrant community. And while today is all about firsts, soon enough, these Rookies will feel like seasoned pros—swapping stories, conquering challenges, and calling this place home.

To every new Camper: welcome. You’re about to step into a summer that will shape you in ways you never imagined. To all of our returning friends: thank you for carrying the traditions forward and showing the Rookies the ropes. Here’s to the start of something amazing. Let the adventure begin!
