Hey, we’re Luke and Angel, international staff from Ireland and Mexico, who are first time counselors here at GRP! We both chose to work at GRP because of the emphasis on nature and community. We’ve had an amazing experience so far throughout our first two sessions!
The disconnect from technology is a unique part of GRP, it was strange at first but has quickly become a favourite aspect of ours. Along with the absence of technology, the daily hikes on the preserve, and the knowledge of the mentors truly make this a magical place.
The hikes are rewarding, both counselors and campers learn a lot from the mentors and their wealth of knowledge. They teach us about plants, animals and the history of the area, which makes the hikes enjoyable, yet educational. We even get to go into the caves and stand under the waterfalls!
The staff here made our arrival very smooth, and welcomed us with open arms. This is still true today, and they do the same for each and every one of our campers. During our training week we learned so much about the role and our duty of care to the campers, but also a significant amount of teambuilding which is fundamental to our close knit community.
There is something for everyone at Green River Preserve. We explore the land and challenge ourselves in new ways each day. We believe that what makes this a special place is the amazing community, always lifting each other up and celebrating every new milestone.
We look forward to the sessions ahead, if they are half as good as these past two sessions it will be the summer of a lifetime for sure! We hope to see at least one Grand Slam, and are excited to welcome our Session 3 campers!
Seek the joy,
Luke & Angel
