In Memory of Lydia

I don’t know how to write this. As a Camp Director, this is going to be one of the hardest things I have to write.

Green River Preserve recently lost a bright light. Lydia Woods, a soon-to-be 4th-year camper and BRX’er, passed away in a tragic accident before the start of our summer season.

I got to know Lydia as she came to GRP year after year. She always had a smile on her face and was eager for every mentor hike. At meals, her table was full of laughter and joy, and Lydia was normally at the center. When her sister called, she said Lydia was excited about another Grand Slam this year and about taking on the next adventure with BRX. She would have loved it!

At this time her family asks “In honor of Lydia’s life, be as wild as possible, do something new every day, never settle for things in life, love hard, make as many friends as possible, travel, have a dog that’s your best friend, find things you love in life and be great at them, swim every chance you get no matter where, make people remember you, be the life of the party, but most of all, make every breath count and every step remarkable.”

Lydia, from everyone at GRP, you are missed and will always have a place in the Green River Valley under the pines.
