Challenge by Choice is a common phrase used at Green River Preserve and it is one that held true throughout Staff Campout. Counselors, Mentors, and Kitchen Staff all took the time to backpack to 2 locations: Peggy’s Rock and Upper Bald. Through this hiking expedition mentors taught counselors how to navigate the trails, what things needed to be prepared for a campout, and to have patience with themselves and their fellow group members.
For many staff members it was their first time backpacking but through this experience they accomplished a GINORMOUS feat and made it up the mountain even when it was hard. Challenge by choice means to push yourself even when it’s tough, or frustrating, or even exhausting but by coming out of the other side staff members left more experienced and with a sense of accomplishment.
Staff members gathered around to sing songs on Long Rock which made the lengthy and arduous hike worth it in the end. Staff Campout was a great way for the camp community to get to know one another and build trust in our abilities as well as others before campers arrive.
Today we welcomed our Rookie Campers to GRP for the very first time. We are so excited for the week ahead and all the fun we will have!
