Green River Preserve Wins 2012 Environmental Stewardship Award

The Environmental and Conservation Organization (ECO) awarded Green River Preserve the Environmental Stewardship Award. The award is given to organizations which incorporate significant sustainability into their current practices and facilities.

ECO’s mission is to preserve the natural heritage of Henderson County and the mountain region as an effective voice for the environment. The organization is celebrating its 25th year.

“We are very honored by the award,” said the camp’s executive director, Sandy Schenck. “The Green River Preserve got the award because of its tradition respecting the land.”

Green River Preserve is a summer camp located in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Brevard, North Carolina with a focus on connecting children with nature. The preserve also has the largest conservation easement in Henderson County.
