Yesterday we had a great first day of normal activity scheduling. Campers went on morning mentor hikes, and some saw salamanders while two groups spotted the first Grand Slam animal: the copperhead. Another mentor group went to the farm, played with the goats Quinoa and Cous-Cous, and picked fresh vegetables. The weather was very beautiful in the morning, and for once it didn’t rain!
A delicious Brown Meal lunch and a visit from the Australian Cabin Fairy were followed by a lovely rest hour. Activities then began and campers learned to canoe and fly fish, sketched in the Cordwood Cottage, learned Tai Kwon Do, and played field games.
Free time activities included board games and swimming at the waterfront.
After cabin time and my favorite spaghetti dinner, campers prepared for Predator/Prey. Campers and staffers both dressed in sometimes-outrageous displays of camouflage and had a wonderful time chasing each other around in the woods.
It was a very wonderful first full day at camp and there’s a lot to look forward to!
