Session 5: Summer Camp Day 1

What a great first day! After a delicious breakfast in the dining hall, they set out on their first mentor hike of the session. They also came up with their group names such as Into the Sun, Funky Fungi, and Snake Eggs among others.

Two groups of campers explored the wet and dry rooms of Indian Cave. Other campers became Polar Bears at Uncle’s Falls. (That’s where you stand under a cold waterfall and yell “polar bear” several times.) Another group ran across signs of turkeys, as in their feathers, but unfortunately not the actual animal. But they did spot a barred owl which is a pretty neat thing to see. On the other hand the campers who climbed up to the Balds saw a copperhead which is one of the four Grand Slam animals! The other three are a deer, black bear and a turkey.

Afternoon activities included climbing, nature art, canoeing, creative writing, painting and more. After dinner the campers and staff will play an all-time favorite game of Predator Prey. It’s a guarantee that the children will sleep well tonight!
