Opening day has finally graced us, and despite the rain, all of our campers are successfully settled into their new homes for the week! We have many first-timers this session, and so everyone quickly made new friends during cabin photos and our traditional Respect Circle, where both the girls and the guys openly commit to a summer of mutual respect. Our camper swim review had to be postponed until tomorrow due to the inclement weather, but we had a special Upper Council Fire in the Lodge, where everyone gathered around the cozy fireplace to listen to stories, sing songs, and reflect on the day’s events. It’s always magical to hear Chief Seattle’s letter on Opening Day!
I cannot even begin to illuminate the excitement we, as a staff, have had welcoming all of the campers and their families to the breathtaking place we love to call home. Green River Preserve is such a perfect respite and in just a few brief days, this place has taught us all so much about the land, our second family, and ourselves, and I hope with my heart it will have the same effect on these remarkable children this week. This week will be nothing short of a fantastic time. We welcome adventure with unguarded arms and as we allow ourselves to fall in love with the land, we take in and appreciate all it has to offer. Needless to say this week will be full of hikes, upper and lower council stories around the fire, fencing, fly fishing, canoeing, rock climbing and SO much more! Stay tuned for what’s to come tomorrow and enjoy these pictures of today’s check-in and first dinner!
