BRX2 Update

BRX is back from their backpacking trip. Everyone is happy, healthy, and for the most part dry. Stephen, Phen, and I baked them a blackberry, apple crisp and surprised them with it and ice cream last night. They were elated! As everyone sat around munching on the delicious dessert, individuals took turns telling us of their roses and thorns of the backpacking trip. The group was unanimous with the thorn…….RAIN. But….we have to commend this group because each person managed to have a dry outfit throughout the trip and stay relatively positive. Their roses ranged from swimming, pancake breakfast, sleeping late, hiking, the boat ride across Lake Jocassee, group bonding time, seeing the expeditioners work with one another to solve problems, time outside, learning how to pack a backpack better and better, learning a new knot, the RAIN (so great to hear!), and a particular campsite.

Anne has worked at Green River over the years at summer camp, expeditions, and the school programs as a counselor, expedition leader, mentor, and program director. Anne’s related camp experiences include working as a counselor and program assistant at Camp Ton-A-Wandah in North Carolina, an expedition leader for Wilderness Ventures and an environmental educator and expedition leader for the Teton Science School. Prior to returning home to GRP, Anne was the Director of Education for the Mountain Studies Institute in Silverton, Colorado. Anne and her husband, Steve, are both actively engaged in the American Camp Association, The Association of Environmental Education, and The North Carolina Youth Camp Association. When Anne is not working, she can be found trail running, paddling, cycling, or backcountry skiing with her husband Steve, their sons, Phen and Hawkins,daughter, Alida,and golden retriever, Irie Bird!
