Staff Spotlight: Emma Renfro

For today’s Staff Spotlight, we caught up with Emma Renfro!

Q: What is your position at GRP this Summer?
A: Counselor

Q: How many years have you been at GRP?
A: This will be my first year at GRP as a staff member and my sixth year overall.

Q: What are you currently doing?
A: I am currently attending Elon University and am studying Biology.

Q: What is your spirit animal and why?
A: I would say that my spirit animal is a fox; however, this is not because I believe myself to be a trickster. I relate to the fact that foxes seem to be adaptable and intelligent animals that are very aware of their surroundings, including others. I also think that they are creative when it comes to having to escape from or readjust to an especially tricky situation.

Q: What are you passionate about?
A: I am passionate about raising awareness concerning our environment’s increased degradation. Our environment is in a dangerous state due to our actions and I think it is important that we take responsibility and attempt to further protect our Earth.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside?
A: My favorite thing to do outside is either hiking or just hanging out with friends.

Q: Tell us about your favorite trip/experience.
A: My favorite trip was a vacation I took with my family over a 2 week period during the summer. We spent the entire trip cycling through Brittany and Normandy France and stopping throughout to visit historical monuments.

Q: Why did you choose to come back to GRP this summer?
A: I chose to come back to GRP this summer because, as a camper, I always dreamed of one day being on the other side of GRP and seeing things from the perspective of a counselor. I also chose to come back to GRP because I want to reveal to campers how influential and life-changing a place like GRP can be for young people like them.

Q: What is something interesting that happened to you this year?
A: I moved to a new town and into a small room with a complete stranger. I would say going to college itself is pretty interesting.

Q: Where is your favorite place to hike?
A: My most favorite place to hike is probably in the state of Oregon, specifically in areas like Ecola State Park or the Muir Wood National Monument.

We’re always looking to add qualified, enthusiastic, and adventurous people to our team!
