Staff Spotlight: Nathan Hunnicutt
For today’s Staff Spotlight, we caught up with Nathan Hunnicutt!
Q: What is your position at GRP this Summer?
A: Counselor
Q: How many years have you been at GRP?
A: This will be my second year at GRP as a staff member.
Q: What are you currently doing?
A: I am currently a sophomore at Elon University, but I am studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark right now. I am a Middle Grades Education Major with a focus in math.
Q: What is your spirit animal and why?
A: My spirit animal is a mountain goat because one of my favorite activities to do outdoors is to climb up mountains and play on the rocks. Also, one of my favorite places to be is on top of a mountain similar to a mountain goat.
Q: What are you passionate about?
A: I am passionate about exploring new things, spending time outside, and teaching.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside?
A: One of my favorite things to do outside is to go hiking with friends because I am able to explore the outdoors and play outside, while catching up and spending time with my friends.
Q: Tell us about your favorite trip/experience.
A: One of my favorite trips I have taken was canoeing at night in Everglades National Park. I was able to paddling through the mangrove trees and see the moon reflect off of the water. It was so peaceful, hearing the water slowly ripple off of the canoe.
Q: Why did you choose to come back to GRP this summer?
A: I chose to come back to Green River Preserve because GRP is one of my homes away from home.
Q: What is something interesting that happened to you this year?
A: I am currently studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. Since I have arrived, I have gone ice skating, bouldering, and biking with my friends. We still plan on learning parkour, akroyoga, kabaddi, and kayaking through the canals. While I am Europe, I am planning on rock climbing in Macedonia, Spain, and Sweden, as well as travel to Germany and taking a hiking trip in Switzerland.
Q: Where is your favorite place to hike?
A: One of my most favorite hikes of all time has to be hiking on the ridge of the Presidential Range in the Whites National Forest. As I hiked along the ridge the wind would blow so hard that I could lean into it and angle my body like an Olympic ski jumper without falling flat on my face. Also, on a clear day I could see the mountain range go on for miles, and on a cloudy day I could walk through the mist barely seeing where I was going.
