Ian grew up climbing mountains and playing in the lakes, rivers, and ocean of California. As a teenager, he worked at a camp teaching small boat sailing and canoeing in the Sequoia National Forest. He found his Caribbean roots in the Lowcountry of South Carolina where he shares his love of nature and history as an educator, naturalist, kayak guide, and entrepreneur. As the Executive Director of the Lowcountry Environmental Education Program, he designed programs that brought numerous students into the outdoor classrooms of nature in a biodiesel bus. In 2008, Ian kayaked from the mountains to the sea to film an award winning documentary about the watershed. Ian has worked with various tourism and conservation groups such as Coastal Expeditions, SC Aquarium, US Fish and Wildlife, Charleston Explorers, and others as a trainer, manager, scuba diver, boat captain, walking guide, kayak guide, researcher, and administrator. He presently serves on the board of the Environmental Education Association of South Carolina, South Eastern Environmental Education Alliance, and coordinates the SC Outdoor Education Program where he continues to share outdoor experiences with thousands of students to foster a love for nature and beauty.
