Lucy Groscost

Hi! I’m Lucy

Counselor

Lucy Groscost is thrilled to be on the Green River Preserve staff this year for the first time ever. As a camper, she had attended three straight years of Base Camp starting in 2012, along with Blue Ridge Expedition in 2015, and Outer Banks Expedition in 2016. Lucy is currently a swim coach for Atomic City Aquatic Club, a year-round competitive swim team that she also swam on for the past eleven years. The best memory Lucy has at Green River Preserve was meeting her best friend, Hannah. Hannah and Lucy met during Lucy’s third year at Base Camp and they clicked immediately. Lucy and Hannah then proceeded to do the Outer Banks Expedition together and are still keeping in touch. Lucy would always look forward to Camp Out because of the phenomenal backcountry cuisine, the pita pizzas that they would prepare were delicious and she still craves them to this day. Lucy is currently a freshman at Pellissippi State Community College and she is transferring to East Tennessee State University this coming fall. Lucy is majoring in cinematography and minoring in graphic design. She absolutely loves everything about being outside, especially when she gets to ski and hike. Lucy is a very passionate skier and traveled to Breckenridge, Colorado, last spring break to test out their slopes. Lucy also plans on hiking the entire Appalachian Trail sometime in her future because of how life-changing that experience sounds. Lucy has always enjoyed working with children, this being one of the main reasons she is a swim coach and one of the main reasons she is going to be a counselor. She says that the combination of being at Green River Preserve and getting to work with children the entire summer is honestly surreal; a dream come true. The reason Lucy keeps coming back to Green River Preserve is honestly because of the ideal atmosphere, she says that the positivity and pure happiness that everyone radiates is relieving. Surrounding herself with individuals who have the same interests and passion for nature that she does is incredible. Camp truly is an escape from reality. Lucy cannot wait to give the campers the same unforgettable experience that she had growing up. Something unique about Lucy is that she is not only a passionate film maker, but she is a passionate poetry writer as well. Poetry fascinates her on so many levels and writing it helps portray her emotions in such a way that talking cannot do for her. Lucy would like to believe that she has a natural talent for it.
