Opening Day '19

It’s finally here, folks. Welcome to Green River Preserve, Summer of 2019! We have so much in store for the next 5 days of Summer Camp. As for today, it’s mostly introductions, camp tours and a hearty dinner, followed by a much anticipated first Lower Council Fire of the summer. We’ll end the night with songs and dancing to the folksy tunes of the Green River Ramblers–our resident band–full of Counselors, Mentors and Camp Staff.

This entire week will be full of firsts. First dinner of the season, first breakfast and lunch, even first snacks! Tomorrow brings our first Mentor Hikes of the summer, as well. We’ll hike to Uncle’s Creek Falls and Polar Bear under the rushing spring water. Others will visit the Green River and hopefully spot a salamander or two. The GRP Farm is in full swing, too, with fresh pink lemonade blueberries ripe for the tasting. There’s also a whole array of new farm inhabitants, from goats to little piglets and, of course, Kevin Bacon and Elvis Pigsley will be there, ready to be pet and fed! Tomorrow’s first activities will introduce Campers to archery, canoeing, fly-fishing, drawing, painting and so much more. In any case, we’ll likely be surrounded by happy, energetic Campers and Staff, ready to take on all the “liquid sunshine” scheduled in the upcoming forecast.
