Leadership Transitions at GRP

After 13 years of service, Anne Izard and Steve Mead will be leaving their roles as Co-Executive Directors of Green River Preserve to return full-time to Silverton, Colorado where their family lives and enjoys the great outdoors of the American West most of the year.

As we search for a new director, Anne and Steve are engaged with the Green River Preserve leadership team to ensure a smooth and productive transition, preserving the traditions, heart, and spirit of our remarkable camp community. We are extremely grateful for their significant contributions to our Summer Camp and Expeditions, which will continue to thrive and grow. We wish Anne, Steve, Phen, Hawkins, Alida and their dog, Toots, all the best in their new adventures.

During this transition, the GRP leadership team continues to prepare for an excellent 2024 season!

Please read the letter below from GRP founder and Board Chair Sandy Schenck:

Dear Green River Preserve Community:

I write to share an important update. After 13 years at Green River Preserve, Anne and Steve have decided to move on to new adventures in Colorado and beyond.

We are all grateful for the many years Anne and Steve have shared with the Green River Preserve. I am proud of their many accomplishments and their contributions to camp and community will continue to serve the Green River Preserve for many years to come. Some of these accomplishments include expanded enrollment, incredible improvements to the camp’s infrastructure, including miles of new or improved trails, an expanded health hut and staff housing, and my personal favorite, the Trout House. Anne and Steve persevered during the difficult COVID-19 pandemic, and led the camp into a successful new season.

Their efforts leave Green River Preserve stronger than ever. We are so grateful for Anne and Steve’s hard work and dedication to Green River. We wish them and their family the very best.

Our existing administrative team can now step forward both to orchestrate a smooth leadership transition and to guide the successful forward momentum of Green River Preserve. Enrollment is very strong, staff applications are pouring in, and we have exciting plans to add new year-round staff. We will miss Anne, Steve, and their family, but we also look forward to an exciting new leadership team that shares the same heartfelt commitment to the mission of this great summer camp.

I am proud that the Green River Preserve recently celebrated its 35th year. The Green River Preserve community has a lot to be proud of and a bright future ahead. What an incredible legacy we all share and what a wonderful opportunity we have to serve future generations of Green River Preserve campers and families.

Thank you for your trust in Green River Preserve. We are looking forward to continuing our mission of inspiring environmental stewards through joyful connections with nature and always seeking the joy.

I look forward to seeing you during our 2024 summer season.
